Branches of Niagara, a Whitehaven Road campground (Niagara Falls Campground, LLC) is already very cool, even at this early stage of development. I recently was given a tour by Elaine Pariso and came away very impressed. The vision began in 2004 and after five long years, permits were in place in January 2009. The partners, Elaine Pariso, Don Benoit, Tom McLaughlin and Larry Stolzenburg, are islanders who expect to see the opening of their campground in May 2010. The 7 1/2 acre lake is just weeks away from being completed and will feature a beach at the southern end next spring. A large island that will one day have a lodge and chapel, has a recently completed man-made stream. A hiking trail will be located on the undeveloped western side of the lake. Eight log cabins with sleeping lofts are in different phases of being completed and Elaine is currently looking into lodge type furniture to decorate them. Eighty sites consisting of cabins, campsites and recreational vehicle sites will be ready for business next spring. Other activities to be offered include a swimming pool, and canoeing and fishing the stocked lake. This is a work in progress and looks to be a wonderful addition to our island.
